Community Asset and Protecting Open Spaces

Listing land as a community asset (England only) is a powerful tool as it gives local communities the opportunity to take control of assets and facilities in their neighbourhoods by providing a timescale for a proposal to be prepared.

Dukeshouse Wood, Hexham, Northumberland

A listing may affect planning decisions because it is open to each local planning authority to decide that the listing is a material consideration if an application is submitted for change of use.

Find out more about the process by visiting our website and downloading our information sheet.

Community assets can be buildings or land which are used for the social well-being or social interests of the local community.
