If you love the great outdoors and enjoying full access to your favourite open and green spaces, footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes, you should consider joining the Open Spaces Society.

As a member, you will enjoy many benefits, including the support of our expert team based at our head office in Henley-on-Thames. We have a casework policy to help us prioritise the charity's limited resources.

Depending on where you live, you may also have a local Open Spaces Society correspondent (our name for volunteer) who may be able to help you.

The Open Spaces Society is a registered charity and we’ve been defending the open spaces people love in England and Wales since 1865.

We are Britain’s oldest conservation body and we depend on public donations to keep fighting for village greens, commons and footpaths for everyone to cherish and enjoy.

We have three main aims:

  • To campaign for stronger protection and opportunities for everyone to enjoy commons, greens and paths.
  • To defend open spaces against loss and pressures from development.
  • To assist local communities so that they can safeguard their green spaces for future generations to enjoy.
