We have objected to a planning appeal which could threaten the lovely Ibstone Common in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Bucks.

The owners of the Fox public house in Ibstone applied to Wycombe District Council for permission to extend the premises, including a basement function-suite with capacity for 150 people. The council refused the application because there is inadequate parking, and the applicants have appealed to the Planning Inspectorate.

We have objected to the appeal because the number of vehicles which would need to be accommodated far exceeds the capacity of the existing car-park. The result will be that vehicles will park alongside the only road through the village, which is immediately adjacent to registered common land, and that they will spill over onto the common.

This lovely, extensive common contributes to the beautiful ambience of Ibstone village. The common would be severely degraded if people park on it, particularly when it is wet. The parked vehicles will also be a danger to other drivers, and to the many walkers and riders who come here for peaceful enjoyment.

The Chiltern commons, of which Ibstone common is one, are being promoted and celebrated through the Chilterns Commons Project.

We have urged the Planning Inspectorate to reject this damaging application.
