Go for Green Spaces campaign

We deal with almost 1000 cases a year assisting communities, groups and individuals in protecting their local spaces and paths in all parts of England and Wales. Can you help us by joining as a member?

We have launched a fact-finding campaign, Go for Green Spaces, to advise government on its proposed new designation for green spaces.

The Departments for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) have announced a new designation, similar to sites of special scientific interest, ‘to protect green areas of particular importance to local communities’.

We have written to all our members asking them, from their local knowledge and experience of green spaces, to tell us their ideas on what the new designation should achieve and what are the priorities.

Says Nicola Hodgson, our case officer: ‘This is a significant opportunity for the Open Spaces Society which has for the past 145 years championed the cause of green spaces. We want to tell government what we believe this new designation should achieve, for the benefit of the public.

‘Our members, with their skills and experience, are the best people to advise us—but we shall welcome views from anyone who is able to assist.

‘Email us here to let us know your views,’ says Nicola.
