We have objected to an application from Monmouth Sports Association to erect a shelter on Chippenham Mead village green, Monmouth, in connection with the sporting activities there. The club has applied to the Welsh Government for consent for works on the village green.

We are concerned that the shelter will intrude on the open space, and is for use in connection with formal sporting activities, whereas the village green exists for informal recreation.

Since it is unlawful to encroach upon a village green we do not believe the works can go ahead here in any case.

Chippenham Mead is a precious and much-loved open space in the heart of Monmouth. It should be treasured not trashed.
