We are delighted that our local correspondent in Herefordshire, David Howerski, has won some valuable improvements to public paths.

He has reported over 250 rights-of-way defects in the county since January 2025.  In addition to reporting problems to the county council, Dave writes to the parish councils asking for their help and influence with local landholders.  Dave also calls for rights-of-way improvements where these are necessary.  This effort has proved most productive.

A well-used footpath in Eaton Bishop, EB 5, has now seen two stiles removed and replaced with pedestrian gates.  This is a very popular path and the improvement in access is very much appreciated by the local users,

Footpath EB 26 by the Cage Brook is another a popular walk.  It had a collapsed footbridge in January 2024, which Dave reported and followed up, with the result that a new bridge is now in place.

Says Dave: ‘I am delighted with this progress.  The new management team at Herefordshire Council is now doing its best to catch up with the backlog of errors, which is much appreciated by all those who enjoy walking, riding and cycling in beautiful Herefordshire.’

Adds Helen Clayton, our rights-of-way case officer: ‘It’s good to see such progress made with the encouragement of our local correspondent.  Dave’s persistence has really paid off.’
