Threat to Hereford open space

We have objected to Hereford Council’s plan to dispose of a valued open space at Goodrich Grove, Hereford. The space is the former Vortex site and is much used and enjoyed by local people.

The council has advertised its plans to appropriate and dispose of the open space, and objections must be submitted to the Valuations and Estates Manager, Alison Hext, before 7 November.

We deplore the threat to this important open space. The council’s intentions are contrary to its own Unitary Development Plan which outlaws development proposals that would result in the loss of open space with recreation value unless there is an excess of space or alternative provision is made. Neither applies here.

We can see no justification for taking away this open space from the people and we have urged the council to abandon its plan.
