CHRIS BENEY

chris19k.jpg (9585 bytes)Chairman of a rights of way association (300 members) which is a founder Parish Path Partner.  Open Spaces Society local correspondent, secretary to the Hertfordshire Countryside Forum's rights of way group, Ramblers' Area Committee member. Chartered Engineer. Patient wife, three children, four grandchildren.

Sees the Open Spaces Society's strength in its coverage of all types of open public access - alleyways, paths, Greenways, commons, all open spaces.

Chris thinks assault courses should be voluntary for the public and so likes to see paths spacious and comfortable to use;  he sometimes initiates and drafts path orders to achieve that. He claims to have some expertise in stiles and gates, in their approval under HA80 s147 and s66, and in the new British Standard for path structures (BS5709:2001) which he helped prepare.  He is always pleased to be contacted on these at chrisbeney@oss.org.uk for help and advice on these structures as well as on the appropriate drafting of path orders.
